Artisan

Samurai are encouraged to perfection in all skills. The Artisan skill represents your talents in the noble arts of Sekai; Origami, Calligraphy, Poetry, Bonsai, Ikebana, Tea Ceremonies, Musicianship, Swordsmithing, etc.

Overcome
Often challenged in contests of skill, samurai compete with each other in the noble arts for prestige amongst the great houses.

Create Advantage
Artisans can use their skills to create aspects representing the features of their work which can be invoked under suitable circumstances.

Athletics

As per FATE Core

Awareness

Samurai are expected to be aware of themselves and their environment at all times. The awareness skill can be used both to observe the environment and others, it is mostly used in the same way as the Notice skill in FATE Core.

Commerce

The commerce skill is mainly the province of merchants, but some samurai may have the knowledge from managing their estates. Commerce also fulfills the role of the Resources Skill from FATE Core. Without the Commerce skill characters are dependent on their Daimyo for all their material needs.

Overcome
Not usually used to overcome obstacles but can come in handy if you need to assess trade or tax papers to detect anything untoward.

Create Advantage
Masters of commerce can create aspects based on trade, taxes, tariffs etc.

Attack & Defend actions are not applicable

Criminality

Used in the commission of crimes and the fencing of stolen goods. Characters with high criminality are plugged into the criminal underworld.

Overcome
Pickpocketing, filching, lockbreaking and concealing the acts you have committed all fall under the skill of criminality. You can also use criminality to evade the attentions of the law.

Create Advantage
Criminality can be used in the planning of crimes before their commission, creating aspects that reflect your careful planning.

Etiquette

Etiquette is the art of mastering the rules and codes of courtly behaviour. In a society where almost everyone is armed with a three foot razor blade politeness and good form are as crucial a skill as any fighting art.

Overcome
Etiquette is used to overcome obstacles created by the bureaucracy of court. For instance to gain an audience with the Daimyo or to access restricted papers.

Create Advantage
You may use your knowledge of etiquette to place others at a disadvantage when interacting with you. For instance placing the “Last years’ fashions” or “Unfortunately that paperwork is incorrect” on someone.

Attack
You may use Etiquette to make social attacks against others, inflicting damage to their Honor stress track.

Defend
Etiquette may also be used to defend yourself from attempts to attack you socially with the Etiquette skill.

Special
Etiquette determines the number of Stress boxes and bonus consequences you get for your Social track similarly to Will and Physique

Fighting

As per FATE Core

History

The lore of Sekai is found in its history. This skill is analogous to the Lore skill in FATE Core

Horsemanship

The FATE Core Drive skill but for horses.

Intuition

Honed in battle, both on the field and in the court of the Emperor a samurai’s intuition enables them to discern motives and truths unspoken, and perceive the strike before the sword is drawn.

Overcome
Intuition is used to determine the emotions, motives and future actions of others. It can be used to overcome an obstacle created by someone’s Sincerity.

Create Advantage
You can use intuition to uncover hidden aspects in others, such as “Hatred of Kuni Miyago” or “Lying about the scroll”

Attack
No direct attacks are possible using intuition, however it does have a use in dueling.

Defend
Not applicable

Special
Intuition is the main skill you use to help others recover from consequences that are mental in nature.

Investigate

As per Fate Core.

Physique

As per FATE Core.

Provoke

As per FATE Core.

Religion

The study and practice of the philosophical and mystical teachings of Sekai
.
Overcome
Religion can be used to understand both abstract philosophical problems and also to divine the disposition and intent of the Kami.

Create Advantage
The skill can be used to create aspects relating to the Tao or the Kami. For instance “He who controls others may be powerful, but he who has mastered himself is mightier still”.

Shooting

As per FATE Core

Sincerity

In Sekai it is not considered dishonorable to lie as long as the speaker appears to believe that what they are saying is genuine. Sincerity is the skill you use to convince someone you are telling the truth – regardless of whether or not you are.

Overcome
Sincerity is used to convince someone that you are telling the truth – whether or not you are. You can also use dissemble and phrase the truth carefully so as to avoid insult.

Create Advantage
Use sincerity to create aspects related to the truths or lies you are telling. For example “On Imperial Business” or “I assure you the paperwork is quite correct”

Attack & Defend
Sincerity can be used in social combat.

Special
Sincerity is the primary skill used to recover from Social Consequences.

Stealth

As per FATE Core

Warfare

Samurai live for war. The warfare skill is used in mass combat situations. It is used to engage enemies and understand the flow of battle. It can also be used to seek out duels with key enemy combatants while a conflict rages all around.

Overcome
The warfare skill is used to overcome the defences of strongholds and other fortified positions.

Create Advantage
Warfare can be used to create aspects related to mass combat such as “Outflanked” or “Forced March”

Attack
Warfare is used to attack other units in mass combat.

Defend
Warfare is used to defend against attacks made using the warfare skill.

Will

As per FATE Core
